Vintage Wall Art: Retro Embroidery

Hanging_3

These are two hanging pieces I picked up at a Discovery Thrift Store.

I love them. They are both embroidered in funky colors. The interesting one is the mod looking piece that has many different sized squares overlapping and in vibrant colors, textures and patterns. I am not getting good light today so they are not popping in pictures as they do in real life. This pair really goes well with our orange leather sofa and helps to complete the rumpus room feel we are going for. It is slowly turning into a great room to listen to records in!

Rumpus Room!

Peter and I had a living room makeover! Our garage sale was very successful so we were able to redo our patio windows and convert our living room into a rumpus room. We just like to say rumpus room. We have already planned a rumpus room for whenever we decide to buy a house! Our living room has increased in rumpus by at least 40%!

Here is the before picture:

Here is the new rumpus room....note the new window coverings:

Morning Light

This weekend a home decorating problem was solved!  My boyfriend Peter and I went to Ikea this weekend to buy cheap Tupperware in bulk. Of course it is impossible to get out of there without getting a cartload of goods! However, it was not money spent blindly on things we did not need. We have the ugliest window coverings in every room. We were saving up money for plantation style blinds. Then we ran into these amazing fabric panels and suspension systems at Ikea.

It was a perfect solution! It is a three rail system that allows you to hang three weighted fabric panels and slide them around. The color  and texture combinations are very modern and textured. Immediately Peter and I decided we had to have them for the bedroom. They are opaque and let a nice morning light through the panels to gently nudge you out of bed in the morning. It is so lovely.  We had dark velvet curtains before that were blocking out all light and making us feel like we were in a cave.

Anyways, this project was so successful that we are going to apply two of these systems to our patio doors. this means we will have six panels. We are thinking of choosing the rice paper, a tan neutral, and the straw woven panels for these large windows. The panels come 118 inches long so they are almost floor to ceiling! It is going to brighten our living room up so much! You can also suspend these systems from the ceiling to create room dividers....which we are doing as well. We have an open floor plan in our condo and would love to be able to make a room divider! I realize it is hard to imagine so here is a photo of our first window makeover! We cut these panels to fit this window and have enough for our guest room window! The first window cost about $100. The patio window will cost about $200. Totally worth it and within our decorating/remodeling budget!

Cheap Swedish Treats

Ok. I will admit it. I have a weird thing with hard boiled eggs. I love them. I love having them with a thermos of tomato soup. A little salt and pepper for the egg and I am in heaven. I could eat them everyday. It's weird. So you can imagine my delight when I found these egg cups at ikea:

So cute. I think they were like $2.

Then I found this darling set of tea and coffee tins to use in my craft area:

I can't wait to stuff them with threads and junk to make me appear organized!
